LiquoGuard® 7

CSF Management System

Automated CSF management instead of manual adjusted drainage

LiquoGuard® is the leading CSF management system that simultaneously measures CSF pressure and drains cerebrospinal fluid under controlled circumstances.

LiquoGuard® was designed to continually monitor for CSF drainage problems. It is a proactive system, unlike gravity-based drains which cannot actively monitor and detect issues. Our device will notify staff immediately when there is an occlusion, pressure discrepancies, catheter disconnections. This helps clinicians by knowing their external drain patients are being monitored closely and consistently - and only need to intervene when the device senses a problem with the drainage process. The system not only supervises the patient levels, but also supervises itself. Any inconsistency in the measured pressure leads to an alarm so that you will know immediately when a problem is detected.

Advantages Of LiquoGuard® Versus Gravity Drains: Gravity-based drip chambers are commonly used for external lumbar and ventricular drains, but are difficult to manage and fraught with problems, especially restrictions on movement and inadvertent "dumping" of CSF. Our automated CSF management technology, LiquoGuard®, is easy to program and manage, and eliminates many of the challenges associated with gravity-based drains. There is now no need to: -level a transducer each time the patient moves -manipulate stopcocks -choose between measuring pressure or draining CSF, and -keep patient still while draining without risk of overdraining CSF. Handling mistakes are prevented, which greatly improves patient safety and leads to quicker recovery.

Vascular surgery and anestesiology

During vascular surgery intervention (e.g. TAA, TAAA) LiquoGuard® reliably monitors the pressure situation and the flow of CSF, documents the progression and helps detect situations that are harmful for the patient, early on. Also after an OP LiquoGuard® helps keep the intrathecal pressure at the desired level, or facilitates fast reaction to avoid neurological deficits or to counter them as quickly as possible. Typical application cases are:

  • Intraoperative neurological monitoring
  • Postoperative neurological monitoring
  • Pressure controlled CSF drainage

Neurosurgical, accident surgery and orthopedics

LiquoGuard® is traditionally used to control and adjust the cerebrospinal fluid pressure for continuous and regulated drainage, and for relief of acute high-pressure events (bleeding, edema, etc.).

Patients of any age, pediatric as well as geriatric, profit, and for medical personnel the effort associated with supporting and monitoring the drainage is reduced. Typical application cases are:

  • Ventricular drainage
  • Lumbar drainage
  • Pressure controlled drainage
  • Volume controlled drainage

Diagnostic and therapeutic support

Diagnosis of NPH (Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus) is difficult at times. LiquoGuard® supports you through the possibility of performing automated diagnostic procedures (Lumbar infusion test, Tap Test, Continuous lumbar drain, Continuous pressure monitoring).
In addition, LiquoGuard® is suitable for determining possible shunt settings and can depict and record the actual life conditions of the patient. The fact that LiquoGuard® offers mobile implementation due to battery operation, enables drainage volumes and target ICP to also be determined quickly, easily and safely in different positions (lying, sitting, standing, physical exertion, etc.), even over a longer period of time. Typical applications are:

  • Katzman Test (lumbar infusion for NPH diagnosis)
  • Determination of shunt opening pressures and possible suitable shunt settings
  • Control of shunt settings and functionality

Rethinking CSF Management:

LOWERED RISKS

Reduce significantly accidental over and under drainage through direct fixation of the transducer to the patient.

VERSATILE APPLICATION

All in one solution for pressure or volume controlled drainage. Flexible adjustment of the drainage rate between 1 ml/h and 150 ml/h.

EASE OF USE

No need to manipulate stopcocks and level or re-zero a transducer. Simultaneous measuring & draining frees the staff from time-consuming tasks.

DOCUMENTED TREATMENT

Continuous recording of the course of treatment and the integrated alarm management significantly reduces the amount of personnel required.

GET PATIENTS MOVING TO EXPEDITE THEIR RECOVERY

Earlier mobilization can result in a faster patient recovery and improve the healing process.

EARLY AMBULATION

Patients can be mobilized safe without interrupting the CSF drainage.

REDUCE HOSPITAL COSTS

Staff time is greatly reduced and the treatment of non-critical patients no longer needs to be done in the ICU.

FULLY AUTOMATED SYSTEM

Whether pressure events, clogged, kinked, or loosened catheters - the sophisticated alarm system informs you about medical incidences when they occur.

What They Say About

LiquoGuard® 7

“CSF drainage has become a safe adjunct to our complex aortic repairs since we have started using routinely the LiquoGuard® 7 system. It is a mandatory tool in the armamentarium to prevent spinal cord ischaemia, and the very accurate monitoring of pressure and volumes reduces the risks associated with CSF drainage.”

Stephan Haulon, MD (Vascular Surgeon)

What They Say About

LiquoGuard® 7

“Cerebrospinal fluid drainage is strongly recommended as a spinal cord protective strategy in open and endovascular thoracic aortic repair for patients at high risk of spinal cord ischemic injury. Automatic drainage systems such as LiquoGuard® allow the speed and amount of cerebrospinal fluid drained to be programmed in a controlled and safe way according to cerebrospinal fluid pressure, and guarantee appropriate spinal perfusion.”

Vincente Riambau, MD (Chief of the Vascular Surgery Division)

Clinic Barcelona (Spain)

What They Say About

LiquoGuard® 7

"In none of the over 50 cases, the LiquoGuard® system caused any complications. Neither any over drainage, nor any over drainage-related complication that required surgical treatment, occurred. The advantages became even more visible, the more uncooperative, restless or mobile a child was. Neither coughing, crying/screaming, unintended change of position, epileptic seizures or extreme mobility led to uncontrolled CSF losses. In these situations, had the child been treated with a drip chamber, continuous supervision by nurses or parents would have been mandatory, since only the instantaneous closing of the drain would have prevented unintended loss of CSF. With transient post-surgical use of the LiquoGuard® system, it was possible to remove the external drains earlier. The daily drained volumes were in some cases significantly lower, since no intended CSF losses came on top of the actually required CSF drainage volume."

What They Say About

LiquoGuard® 7

"The patient quality of life improves so much. It is a no brainer. The pain that I went through on that old archaic system is unbelivable. To me, if I ran a hospital, it is a no brainer investment."
